Newborns will receive special red receiving blankets to raise awareness about women's heart health
Smyrna, TN - TriStar StoneCrest Medical Center is celebrating National Wear Red Day® in very special way this year. Every baby born on Friday, February 3, will receive a red receiving blanket instead of the traditional blue, pink and white striped blanket. The goal is to honor the women in these babies' lives- their moms, sisters, grandmothers or aunts- who could be or has been affected by heart disease.
TriStar StoneCrest is joining the Go Red movement to raise community awareness about women's heart disease because of these facts from the American Heart Association (AHA):
- Heart disease and stroke cause 1 in 3 deaths among women each year, killing approximately 1 woman every 80 seconds
- 80% of cardiac and stroke events may be prevented with education and action
- Only 1 in 5 women believe heart disease is their greatest health threat
"Welcoming babies to the world is one of the most special moments in a mother's life," said Michelle Browning, director of women's and children's services at TriStar StoneCrest. "National Wear Red Day is an opportunity to educate our moms and their families on taking their heart health seriously because this will ultimately affect the new baby. There is an extra sense of purpose for our team to ensure we are helping these families and babies even after delivering. We are proud to join the American Heart Association in Going Red for women by impacting life at the very beginning."
